Mauritius is situated in the calm and serene waters of the Indian Ocean and fulfills the dream of a tropical island.

Fishing is a popular leisure activity in Mauritius. Tourists can spend valuable time fishing for several kinds of fishes. It is not only past time activity but also a source of income for settlers in Mauritius.

What kind of fishes one can fish in Mauritius waters?
The Mauritius waters are just ideal for deep sea fishing. It is an angler’s paradise of course, with so many fishes to choose from, such as Tuna, shark, Blue Martin etc. One comes across a varied marine fauna. All types of sharks can be found such as mako, hammerhead, tiger black fin, yellow tunas, Barracuda and Bonitos.

The Blue Margins are, of course, very enormous in size and its fighting ability makes it a very interesting game-fishing target. They lurk in the waters that surround Mauritius and make Tuna their prey or just splash behind the fishing boat. They are loners usually and put forward a .valiant battle when hooked.

Deep sea fishing season
Deep sea fishing can be enjoyed throughout the year. The best season to fish is from October onwards to April especially for those who are keen on fishing marlins.

The fishing boats are well equipped. With state of art type equipment for artificial lures as well as live baiting. The largest of such fleet is situated in Trou-Aux-Biches and Grand Baie which is known as Corsaire Club as well as Sport fish.

Where to book for deep sea fishing?
One can book for deep sea fishing at hotels. The prices for such fishing much depends upon the category of the boat one is going in for. Prices range from about Rs. 6,000 to about Rs.12,00 for half a day. For one day the prices can range from Rs. 2,000 to Rs.20,000. It is advisable to pay more for safety purposes.
